Mechanical design and construction phase services for a new 16,000 sq. ft. four story classroom building addition plus an 8,500 sq. ft. interior renovation of the existing building constructed in 1938.
The addition and renovation is comprised of classrooms, offices, meeting rooms, break rooms, a large open learning commons area, and a 100-seat lecture classroom.Project Details
- The new HVAC systems are served by the campus’ underground high efficiency chilled water and steam loops.
- An in-floor hybrid radiant/forced air distribution system comprised of hollow steel forms embedded in the concrete floor slab was utilized to condition the fourth floor of the addition. Use of this system significantly reduced overhead ductwork, so ceiling heights could be maximized.
- Airside economizer was included on air handling units to allow free cooling of facility during appropriate ambient conditions.
- Demand control ventilation using carbon dioxide sensors was used to minimize outside air load on heating and cooling systems.
- A new digital building automation system controls the HVAC systems and provides continual diagnostic feedback to the campus facilities office.
- Mechanical and plumbing infrastructure was provided in learning commons area for future build out of a branded coffee shop.
