University of Georgia Driftmier Engineering Center Renovations (Ph I, II, III & 2-Story)

Phased mechanical, plumbing and fire protection systems renovation of a 110,000 square foot, 1960s-era classroom, laboratory, and office space building. Originally designed for agricultural engineering programs in 1966, this renovated state-of-the-art hub significantly expanded laboratory capacity to support the college’s eight undergraduate and seven graduate programs.

  • Phase 1
    • Targeted the renovation and expansion of the College of Engineering’s required undergraduate instructional lab spaces, which included the renovation of approximately 21,000 square feet of the building’s 61,000 square feet one-story section.
    • Provided approximately 13,000 square feet of new instructional space with an estimated 385 seats.
    • Nine new wet and dry labs in support of the mechanical, civil, electrical, computer, bio, and agricultural engineering programs.
    • Two new traditional classrooms with a total of 1,800 square feet and 72 seats.
  • Phase 2
    • Renovation of the next 18,500 square feet of the building’s 61,000 square feet, providing instructional space with an estimated 380 seats.
    • Two new large restrooms, student meeting space and circulation which will serve a secondary purpose of providing study and collaborative seating.
    • New instructional spaces including traditional and active classrooms, seminar spaces and an auditorium.
    • Nine new traditional classrooms with a new 125-seat, three-tiered auditorium.
  • Phase 3
    • New instructional spaces, student commons, a multi-purpose classroom and staff and faculty offices.
    • A new primary entrance on the north elevation to promote safer, faster and ADA accessible access from campus transport.
  • Two-Story
    • The primary entry of the Driftmier Engineering Center, which houses the admin office and conference rooms.
